I am inspired by the resiliency and inherent capacity for individuals to heal. Trauma and grief have traditionally been misunderstood and concealed, relegated to the shadows and often not talked about openly.
Though the course of life, the human experience of loss is universal. I too have worked though personal losses. Significantly, my mother passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in 2008. This loss was pivotal and life changing for me. It was the catalyst for me to return to school and obtain my Master’s in Counselling Psychology. Prior to employment in mental health, I worked in child protection for over ten years. Grief and trauma were evident in the children, intergenerationally in the families, the caregivers/foster homes, and even the professionals working in the field. At the same time, the sheer strength and compassion was astonishing. These insights contributed to my desire to shift my career path. I am honored for the opportunity to journey alongside others, providing support and authentic connection toward recovery. I provide a safe, non-judgmental, and compassionate therapeutic space for adults across the lifespan. My approach is integrative, holistic, flexible and collaborative (we can sprinkle in some “woo” if that’s your jam too) with foundations in attachment, Eye Movement and Desensitization (EMDR), Somatic informed, Compassion focused therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EGO states (IFS/parts) and mindfulness. I have a specialty in working with concurrent disorders, individuals with a mental health concern and substance use struggles at the same time. Often unresolved grief and trauma contribute to this cycle and healing is necessary for recovery. In addition, I have supported people though a variety of lived experiences including perfectionism, people pleasing, relationship and job loss, childhood trauma, placement breakdown, parent-child relationship struggles, step-family integration, diagnosis of child, family of origin issues and residential school trauma. In my personal life, I consider myself a seeker - I enjoy travelling, music, kirtan, time with family and friends, hiking and adventure. Most recently I spent a month in India where I had the opportunity to spend three weeks at various ashrams and yoga/meditations centres and took Reiki training. Continued learning, balance and self growth are also important to me. My intention for 2024 is to complete a 6 month Ayurveda training and Kundalini immersion in September 2024.
